PLATEAU STATE COORDINATOR, SAFE SCHOOLS INITIATIVE, COMMENDS GOVERNMENT AND UNICEF FOR SAFE SCHOOLS TRAINING

Mr. Alex Ladan, the coordinator of the Save the Schools Initiative in Plateau State, attended a one-day training yesterday Monday, September 11, 2024, to launch a state-wide initiative aimed at ensuring the safety of schools. The program which is a collaboration of Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Safe Schools Initiative and UNICEF Bauchi Field Office, focused on monitoring compliance of minimum safety standards in schools across ten selected local government areas.

During the event, Mr. Ladan commended the executive governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Honorable Barrister Caleb Mutfwang, for his unflinching commitment to safeguarding students, teachers and non-teaching staff in the state's schools. He highlighted the Governor's proactive steps in domesticating the Safe Schools policy and establishing a well-structured office to oversee its implementation.

Ladan emphasized the crucial role of data collection and analysis in the success of the Safe Schools initiative. He praised UNICEF for its timely and relevant support, noting that the initiative should focus on gathering data specifically about schools in Plateau State. He highlighted that his office, Safe Schools, had already made significant progress in collecting and capturing data about schools.

Addressing the participants and supervisors, Ladan urged them to approach their duties with dedication and excellence. He underscored the importance of collaboration among critical stakeholders to achieve the shared goal of creating safe and secure learning environments for all students.

The chairman of SUBEB, Mr. Amuna, encouraged participants to extend the benefits of the training beyond the program itself and to actively support each other in all aspects of life. He further assured UNICEF of SUBEB's continued support and partnership, officially launching the event.

Dr. Raphael, representing the Bauchi Chief of Field Officer, expressed the organization's commitment to implementing various initiatives in Plateau State, citing the state's Safe Schools coordinator's dedication as a positive indicator.
