Fresh Attacks in Mangu, Bokkos Villages Threaten Plateau Resettlement Efforts

On Friday, April 12th, 2024, suspected Fulani militia attacked the villages of Kopnanle-Mangun in Mangu Local Government Area (LGA) and Mandung-Mushu in Bokkos LGA. Local media reports indicate these attacks resulted in at least 13 deaths, injuries, property destruction, and displacement. These events pose a serious threat to the ongoing peace talks and resettlement efforts for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Plateau State by the administration of His Excellency Governor Caleb Mutfwang.

The attacks, particularly disturbing after a period of relative calm, appear calculated to disrupt the resettlement program and instill fear in the communities. Mission For The Vulnerable and Displaced Citizens (MIVUDI-CITIZENS), a concerned charity organization is deeply concerned about this renewed violence.

MIVUDI-CITIZENS Urges the Following:

Intensified Neighborhood Watch: While commending existing security efforts, MIVUDI-CITIZENS advocates for a strengthened neighborhood watch program to bolster security within the communities.

Strengthened Intercommunity Communication: MIVUDI-CITIZENS emphasizes the importance of open and transparent communication channels between communities to foster trust and understanding, and to raise alarm as at when due.

Governor's Resolve: MIVUDI-CITIZENS calls upon Governor Mutfwang to remain resolute in implementing the resettlement plan. These attacks should not deter the progress made towards peace and rebuilding lives.

Plateau State has the strength to overcome these challenges. MIVUDI-CITIZENS remains committed to supporting the resettlement efforts and ensuring the safety and well-being of vulnerable citizens.
