Following the 2024 Lagos International Water Conference (LIWAC), Engr. Apollos Samchi, Managing Director of the Jos Water Services Corporation (JWSC), met with his counterpart, Engr. Mukyar Tijjani, the MD of the Lagos Water Services Corporation (LWSC) at his Lagos office. Their discussions focused on exploring potential avenues for collaboration to further enhance water resource management in Plateau State. The meeting specifically addressed areas of collaboration in innovation, alternative funding sources, operations, and production within the water and sanitation sector for the mutual benefit of both utilities. The meeting took place a day after he made with Hon. Desmond Eliot, the House Committee Chairman on Lagos Water Services, focusing on same potential avenues for collaboration.
Since his appointment as MD, Engr. Samchi has spearheaded successful initiatives to revitalize abandoned water treatment plants, particularly at Yelwa, Yakubu Gowon Dam, and the Lamingo waterworks. These efforts have demonstrably led to a more consistent water supply for the greater Jos master plan area.
Engr. Samchi's visit to Lagos presents a significant opportunity to leverage the expertise and experience of Lagos State in water management. This collaboration could lead to several benefits for Plateau State, including:
Knowledge Sharing: Exchanging best practices in areas like dam rehabilitation, water treatment technologies, and non-revenue water reduction.
Technical Assistance: Potentially securing technical support from Lagos to address specific challenges faced by the Jos Water Services Corporation.
Funding Opportunities: Exploring potential avenues for grant funding or public-private partnerships to support water infrastructure projects in Plateau State.
A successful collaboration with Lagos State has the potential to significantly improve water security and access for the people of Plateau State.
Congratulations
