Former COCIN President, Rev. Dr. Musa Gotom has been buried at his residence in Jos, Plateau State capital on Friday.
During the funeral service which was held at the COCIN Headquarters Church in Jos, President of the Church, Rev. Dr. Amos Mohzo described the late former President as a gift to the body of Christ.
He said from the dept of his heart he believed the deceased is in a better place than the world now. He recalled the deceased’ message to them during the General Church Council on the need for them to serve like servants in the palace and whatever message the king gives, they must deliver to the world.
While performing the funeral rites, the COCIN President admonished the family not to worry about anything, but commit everything to God and trust Him in every situation.
He used the occasion to call for unity among people in the Plateau State, urging the government to do more to bring about peace in the state and to address the current hunger bedeviling the land today.
In a sermon, former COCIN President, Rev. Prof. Pandang Yamsat read the book of 2Timothy 4:6-8 said like Apostle Paul, the deceased mostly taught and preached on practical way of life.
He also corroborated the statement of the COCIN President on the decreased’ illustration with the king and servants in the palace, emphasizing that the deceased will always say the servant must always be seen and be heard in the palace all the time.
The preacher urged believers to keep the faith in Christ and whatever they do, they must do it right.
“Do the right thing, hold on to your faith. You don’t need to disguise yourself.” Said the clergy to the congregation.
In a condolence message, Plateau State Governor, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang, who was represented by Secretary to the Government of Plateau State, Architect Samuel Jatau sympathized with the family, Church and urged the Gindiri Old Students Association, GOSA to stand in honour of one of them.
Wife of the deceased, Mrs. Lami Musa Gotom, described her late husband as calm, humble and a pastor to the core. She used the opportunity to appreciate the Church especially the President and other individuals who stood by them, and solicited for prayers for the entire family.
There were also goodwill messages from TEKAN President, who was represented by his Vice and President of Evangelical Reformed Church of Christ, ERCC, Very Rev. Dave Denji, Chairman, Incorporated Board of Trustees of COCIN, Rev. Prof. Soja Bewarang among others.
Born on the 5th August, 1940, in Pankshin local government area of Plateau State, late Rev. Dr. Musa Gotom was the first Nigerian Principal of Theological College of Northern Nigeria, TCNN, in 1976, he was appointed Chairman of the Plateau State Scholarship Board in 1980, General Secretary of COCIN from 1986 to 1990.
Late Rev. Dr. Musa Gotom was elected President of COCIN and served from 1991 to 1999. He also served as President, Tarayar Ekklisiyoyin Kristi A Nigeria, (TEKAN) that is Fellowship of Churches of Christ in Nigeria, from 1999 to 2005.
He was one time Chairman of New Life for All (NLFA) which was established in 1963 and Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN). He equally served as Chairman of numerous Board of Christian Association and Organizations.
He died at the age of 83 after a brief illness and left to mourn him are his wife, Mrs. Lami Musa Gotom, 6 Children, 12 grandchildren among other relations.
