FG confirms abduction threat in Plateau State: Increased Security Measures Urged for University of Jos Following Threat of massive abduction, 16th March, 2024

The Mission for the Vulnerable and Displaced Citizens (MIVUDI-Citizens), a Jos-based charity advocating for vulnerable people, is urging increased security measures at the University of Jos (Uni-Jos) following reports of a potential threat.

MIVUDI-Citizens shares concerns raised on social media alleging a planned attack on the university. While the specifics of this post are unclear, their call to action aligns with national warnings.

Hajiya Halima Iliya, National Coordinator of Financing Safe Schools in Nigeria, recently informed The Punch newspaper that Plateau State, where Uni-Jos is located, is among 14 states at heightened risk of student abduction.

*Taking Action for Safety*

MIVUDI-Citizens urges the following actions to ensure the safety of the Uni-Jos community:

*Increased Vigilance* : Security forces and local vigilantes should be on high alert, particularly around the university perimeter.
*Proactive Measures* : The government must actively support and empower security forces to prevent any potential attack.

*Student/general Safety Tips:*

*Stay informed* : Stay updated on official university communications regarding safety.
-Buddy System: When possible, walk with a friend, especially at night.
*Report Suspicious Activity:* Report any suspicious activity or individuals to campus security or local authorities immediately.

*Security is a Shared Responsibility*

While we call for decisive action from authorities, we also urge everyone at Uni-Jos and environs to be vigilant and practice basic safety measures. Let's work together to keep our community safe.

*Stay informed. Stay safe.*
